Winter Music Conference, Friday: Soho Lounge

We headed out at 10 hoping to see DJ Hell in all his you-spin-me-right-round and Fischerspooner glory and we were not disappointed. His set was fucking great even if I was not familiar with most of the tracks. (His usual LoveParade thing that I listen to on mp3 is 80s mixed with techno; this was all recent techno.)

The real standout of the evening was a DJ from Detroit I've never heard of named Tracks (Traxx?). He spun an uptempo techno set for about 15 minutes between when Hell got off and the stupid-ass club security threw us all out because of some laws or something. Anyhoo that was an INTENSE fucking 15 minutes. The guy would not stop thrashing around, tweaking the EQ, throwing in new tracks sporadically, cutting, everything. It was really amazing. Definitely one of my most hectic music moments.

I am now a large drop of sweat with eyes and a mouth.

I also met Peaches! She's hilarious and down to earth. I'm in love. Miss Kitten was there but we missed her performance because of Hell. I don't regret a thing.

This is Chromeo. The skinny dorky white guy plays guitar and raps and screams "ROCK!" while the fat guy -- who is wearing a Tupac-n-Biggy rememberance shirt -- sings at a really high pitch into a vocoder over a dull electronic beat. I know, you're thinking: "why didn't I think of that? I could be making millions like Chromeo!" That's how we all felt last night during their awe-inspiring performance.

I have this technique where I wait for someone to take a picture of someone famous and then right as they're about to push the shutter button thing I take a really quick picture so that I get the authentic hey-nice-to-see-you-again pose instead of my usual "who the fuck is this guy?" thing.
