The horror of blimps

Thursday, February 27th, 2003

The Horror of Blimps:
..I awoke the way you awake when you suddenly know that there is a large levitating sinister presence hovering towards you with menacing intent through the maligant darkness..
It’s hilarious. Read the rest.

Ancient tantric riddle found on Craigslist

Thursday, February 27th, 2003

I think the key to unlocking this ancient riddle is found in a verse of the Upanishands I was reading yesterday, but for the life of me I can’t bring myself to reopen that snoozer of a thing.

Day of Terror

Thursday, February 27th, 2003

Everything that could possibly go wrong is going wrong today.

Vital, pressing update: I invoked my patented defensive mechanism and fell asleep in the face of chaos.

Google: Friend or foe?

Thursday, February 27th, 2003

Google is becoming evil.

Be sure to also read Google As Big Brother which is kind of scary. The unofficial Google weblog has a little more discussion.

Update: Google gets a patent on their search process. Shady privacy practices, angry lawyer letters about trademarks, and patents.. hmm.

Thank goodness for small things

Thursday, February 27th, 2003

I’m happy that I am not Hindu (or Hindoo as it used to be spelled, which is way more hilarious) because their ancient religious texts suck an ass and make no sense, even worse than the King James version of the Bible, which is the equivalent for my white-person culture.
When they divided [primal] Man,
Into how many parts did they divide him?
What was his mouth? What his arms?
What are his thighs called? What his feet?
The Brahman was his moth,
The arms were made the Prince,
His thighs the common people,
And from his feet the serf was born.
From his mind the moon was born,
And from his eye the sun,
And from his mouth Indra and the fire,
From his breath the wind was born.
From his …

Commmmmmunal bathrooms

Thursday, February 27th, 2003

It’s nice to not have to clean your own bathroom, but I’m getting really tired of having to deal with other people and their associated filth while in there. Just now the tall guy (who I mentioned briefly previously) was in there working his stinky magic or whatever and I discovered that he’s actually so tall he can see over the stall walls! He’s like the John Ashcroft of the bathroom as he spies on the activities of all stall-users. I don’t know if he’s on the clock and hates his job or he’s my urinary-twin or something else but he’s always fucking in there when I am. (He doesn’t really fuck in there; we haven’t built the glory hole …

Word of the day: grandee

Wednesday, February 26th, 2003

Hey look an actually usable Word of the Day:

grandee \gran-DEE\, noun:
1. A man of elevated rank or station.
2. In Spain or Portugal, a nobleman of the first rank.

Jack Byron still harbored delusions of being a local grandee, attempting to influence district politics; as the final humiliation, in the parliamentary election of 1786 his vote was disallowed.
–Benita Eisler, [?]Byron: Child of Passion, Fool of Fame

Like Bellow, he is at once a snob and a democrat, a voracious brain and a churning gut, a seminar-room grandee and a barroom brawler.
— A. O. Scott, “Trans-Atlantic Flights,” [?]New York Times, January 31, 1999

Seduced by his need to live like a grandee, Coppola can’t afford not to work within the system.
–Joseph McBride, “Offers He Should’ve …
